Kona, Hawaii, USA
  • Traveled with American Airlines
  • Overall tips When you first leave the airport you think you have landed on mars. But don't despair because as soon as you turn to the coast it is stunning! The beaches, the people, the food and of course the sunset. I wish we had spent more time there!
Accommodation
  • Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii
    1 N Kaniku Dr, Puako, Hawaii 96743
Not even sure where to begin: swimming at 4am in a heated pool under the stars, the most amazing sunset i have ever seen, the lagoon and snorkeling with turtle or the food - it was all amazing!

we spent the whole day swimming and having fun. The snorkeling is great and my wife did yoga on a paddle board! We ate at the coffee place for breakfast and lunch and ate at the restaurant right next to browns for dinners - fish sandwiches are amazing!
Kauai, Hawaii, USA
  • Traveled with Hawaiian Airlines
  • Overall tips Amazing that you are still in the US - I felt like I had gone back in time to Indonesia or another tropical island. The north shore in the summer is amazing, the beaches, the sunsets and of course the sushi!
Accommodation
  • Hanalei Bay Resort
5380 Honoiki Rd, Princeville, Hawaii 96722
A great place if you don't want to stay at the St. Regis on the north shore, which is where you should be in the summer. But it is full of hills . However they will pick you up with a golf cart and that made the difference with my kids and parents.

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • The Dolphin Restaurant
5-5016 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, USA
The best sushi on the Island but there is a wait. great tip - if you want to have just sushi you can sit outside by the river and don't have to wait an hour. They also have fresh fish takeout in the back - tuna was amazing

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • Waipa Farmer Market
55785A Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, USA
Great small market with a selection of fresh locally grown fruits and veggies. Check out the Italian stand selling fresh pasta and sauce - $20 fed us all (5)!

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park
      Kapaa, HI 96746, USA
here is an amazing 4 mile roundtrip hike with outstanding views. the hiking is not eacy and prepared to be hot and sweaty, but so worth it. There is a restroom at the 2 mile mark but that is it - bring snacks and lots of water. This is why you come to Kauai!
      • Bar Acuda
5-5161 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, USA
Such a great place to eat - Hawaiian tapas - but not for kids. The macadamia nut crusted cheesecake is amazing

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • Wings Over Kauai
3651 Ahukini Rd, Lihue, HI 96766, USA
Great alternative to helicopters - which are more expensive. Saw the whole island and our pilot was amazing. One thing to consider is though amazing and you will see the whole island, the helicopters can get into the smaller areas and closer to the water falls - but we didn't feel like we were missing out and the kids loved it!

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • Smith Family Garden Luau
3-5971 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaa, HI 96746, USA
So an interesting evening - very commercial - but gives you a sense of what a laua is like. I don't recommend - unless your parents are paying!
Day

Kauai, Hawaii, USA

    • Anini Beach
      Kalihiwai, HI 96754, USA
Nice snorkeling if the winds are down - need to swim around to find the reef - very calm for the kids
      • Postcards Cafe
5-5075, Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, USA
Really good food in an old hawaii home - recommend the appetizer platter for the table. Right in Hanalei across from Dolphin
Maui, Hawaii, USA
  • Traveled with Hawaiian airlines
  • Overall tips A beautiful but very built up island. our view is skewed because after being in Kauai for a week, we felt overwhelmed with all the hotels etc. But after a day or so we fell in love - the coast is beautful
Accommodation
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua
1 Ritz Carlton Dr, Kapalua, Hawaii 96761
I have mixed emotions. Very beautiful views and well run, overall resort. But the food is not worth it (except for banyan tree) and the the service was hit or miss. However... right outside the entrance is a great market, we stayed in a one bedroom residence with small kitchen, so we could purchase groceries and a couple of cheap dinners

We spent the day at the hotel - the pools are very extensive.
      • Lahaina Banyan Court
671 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761, USA
Very expensive restaurant at the Ritz, but the food and service were excellent. There is a great view of the ocean. Check out the restaurants elsewhere in the Kapalua community. We ate later int he week at Taverna up the street, a more reasonable place.

Another nice day. While the water can be a bit rough at the beach it was still fun wave jumping. Also, great time at the pool again. We ate breakfast in our room and had lunch at the pool - not so good - go to the store outside the entrance.

Maui, Hawaii, USA

    • Honolua Store
502 Office Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761, USA
Brought pizza in for dinner - cheaper and better than the hotel. We also bought groceries here to since we had a small kitchen
      • Kapalua
        Hawaii 96761, USA
Fantastic snorkeling and very calm beautiful spot to swim - you can take the beach chairs from the hotel and there is an on demand shuttle.

Maui, Hawaii, USA

    • Nakalele Blowhole
Poelua Bay HI 96793, Wailuku, HI 96793, United States
There is a nice hike down to a blowhole - the water comes in from the ocean and shoots through a natural hole. Lots of other natural features on the hike. A nice way to escape the resort for a few hours. We went north to the village but there is nothing to see and the roads were too narrow for my liking!
      • Julia's Banana Bread
4625 Kahekili Hwy, Wailuku, HI 96793, USA
On the side of the road near the blowhole - the juices are amazing the banana bread is to die for!
Day

Maui, Hawaii, USA

    • Lahaina
      Hawaii, USA
Next to Kapalua - not as nice and the snorkeling was ok - you can rent chairs and an umbrella at the hotel right there
Day

Maui, Hawaii, USA

    • Taverna Maui
2000 Village Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761, USA
Up the street from the Ritz - pretty good food and nice views.
