Maui County, HI, United States
  • Traveled with Hawaiian airlines
  • Overall tips Truly a beautiful place, but much more built up than we expected and super expensive
Accommodation
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua
1 Ritz Carlton Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
I have mixed emotions. Very beautiful views and well run, overall resort. But the food is not worth it (except for banyan tree) and the the service was hit or miss. However... right outside the entrance is a great market, we stayed in a one bedroom residence with small kitchen, so we could purchase groceries and a couple of cheap dinners

    • The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua
1 Ritz Carlton Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
We spent the day at the hotel - the pools are very extensive.
      • Lahaina Banyan Court
671 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
Very expensive restaurant at the Ritz, but the food and service were excellent. There is a great view of the ocean. Check out the restaurants elsewhere in the Kapalua community. We ate later int he week at Taverna up the street, a more reasonable place.

Another nice day. While the water can be a bit rough at the beach it was still fun wave jumping. Also, great time at the pool again. We ate breakfast in our room and had lunch at the pool - not so good - go to the store outside the entrance.

    • Honolua Store
502 Office Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
Brought pizza in for dinner - cheaper and better than the hotel
      • Kapalua
        Kapalua, HI 96761, USA
Fantastic snorkeling and very calm beautiful spot to swim - you can take the beach chairs from the hotel and there is an on demand shuttle.

1 Ritz Carlton Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
We ate at the sushi restaurant - unfortunately they closed it!
      • Nakalele Blowhole
Poelua Bay HI 96793, Wailuku, HI 96793, United States
There is a nice hike down to a blowhole - the water comes in from the ocean and shoots through a natural hole. Lots of other natural features on the hike. A nice way to escape the resort for a few hours. We went north to the village but there is nothing to see and the roads were too narrow for my liking!
        • Julia's Banana Bread
4625 Kahekili Hwy, Wailuku, HI 96793, United States
On the side of the road near the blowhole - the juices are amazing the banana bread is to die for!

      Lahaina, HI, USA
Next to Kapalua - not as nice and the snorkeling was ok - you can rent chairs and an umbrella at the hotel right there
      • Taverna Maui
2000 Village Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761, United States
Up the street from the Ritz - pretty good food and nice views.
Kona, HI, United States
  • Traveled with American Airlines
  • Overall tips Truly beautiful. Only stayed 2 nights - big mistake - should have stayed a week. The volcano and the beach are must
Accommodation
  • Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii
1 N Kaniku Dr, Waimea, HI 96743, United States
Absolutely loved this hotel. The service was impeccable, the lagoon was awesome - snorkeled 5 times in 2 days - saw turtles and the food was really good. There is a really cool sunset ceremony at night for the kids.

Browns deli for lunch is good and not expensive and the beach restaurant right next to the pool is very reasonable and quite good.

More of the same - we do regret not seeing the island but the jet lag and everything they had at the hotel kept us from leaving!
Kauai County, HI, United States
  • Traveled with Hawaiian airlines
  • Overall tips North shore is amazing in the summer. The food is terrific and the beaches and hiking are amazing. Not a very developed island so we really felt as though we were in another country.
Accommodation
  • Hanalei Bay Resort
5380 Honoiki Rd, Princeville, HI 96722, United States
We rented a condo through Parish kauai and loved it. Beware of all the hills and there is no beach service. But not a big deal, they have on demand golf carts - was great for my parents and kids at night after late dinner. The lagoon pool is awesome and it shares a beach with the St. Regis. We could easily walk to the St. Regis bar on the beach and order drinks, ice cream etc, though expensive.

    • The Dolphin Restaurant
5-5016 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, United States
The sushi is amazing, though very busy and expensive. if you only want sushi you can sit outside and avoid the wait, also you are right on the river, which is nice!
      • Hanalei Bay Resort

    • Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park
      Kapaa, HI 96746, United States
There is an amazing 4 mile roundtrip hike with outstanding views. the hiking is not eacy and prepared to be hot and sweaty, but so worth it. There is a restroom at the 2 mile mark but that is it - bring snacks and lots of water. This is why you come to Kauai!
      • Bar Acuda
5-5161 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, United States
Such a great place to eat - Hawaiian tapas - but not for kids. The macadamia nut crusted cheesecake is amazing

    • Wings Over Kauai
3651 Ahukini Rd, Lihue, HI 96766, United States
Great alternative to helicopters - which are more expensive. Saw the whole island and our pilot was amazing. One thing to consider is though amazing and you will see the whole island, the helicopters can get into the smaller areas and closer to the water falls - but we didn't feel like we were missing out and the kids loved it!

5 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714, United States
Really good food in an old hawaii home - recommend the appetizer platter for the table
